Pink and green artwork of Clanwilliam Sawfin Fish

Clanwilliam Sawfin Fish

The natural world provides us with so much to be fascinated by. A glimpse into the life of an endemic species does wonders to my gratitude for my own existence. The threats and challenges facing the Clanwilliam Sawfin fish are like many other endemic species. A loss of habitat, and a growing threat from invasive species.

The work ‘Clanwilliam Sawfin Fish’ is a celebration of this endemic species. The illustration was completed in pen on parchment paper before being separated into two layers for the risograph printing process. The green layer includes the outline, stippling, and a half tone of an underwater photograph I took in the species’ natural habitat. A second layer in pink defines the fish further and creates a third colour where the layers overlap.
